Apple iWatch to Also Feature a Fingerprint Scanner?

Both Apple's upcoming iPhone 5S and its rumored iWatch could feature fingerprint scanning technology, reports analyst Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets.

In a note provided to AppleInsider, White says the scanner will be used for "essential security purposes".

Beyond the next iPhone, White believes Apple's fingerprint scanning technology will come to other devices from the company, namely an "iWatch" wrist accessory that he expects will launch this year. In his tour, he found "early signs of movement in the supply chain," signaling Apple could be ramping up to produce such a device.

As we reported earlier, White also suggests the iWatch will be an important part of Apple's television plans.

Technology for the fingerprint scanner is said to come from Apple's acquisition of Authentec.
