Jailbreak Tweak Enables System Wide Facebook Chat Heads for iPhone

Adam Bell, a 21 year old iOS developer, has successfully enabled system wide Facebook Chat Heads via a tweak for jailbroken iPhones, reports The Verge.

Developer Adam Bell has created a tweak for jailbroken iPhones that lets Chat Heads run "on top" of iOS just as they do on Android. "I just got jealous," Bell says. "I wanted them on iOS." It took the 21-year-old Computer Science major mere hours to create a working version of the hack, which manipulates the way iOS handles different views to keep your friends' faces always on top. The Verge has confirmed the hack's functionality on a jailbroken iPhone 5.

"The hardest part was getting this all to render on top of everything else," Bell said. "It doesn't seem very resource intensive. Only when you move the Chat Head is it actually doing anything."

Bell is still ironing out a few bugs but he hopes to have the tweak released free on Cydia and Github within a few days.

Take a look at a video demo below!

P0sixninja Finds Exploits Needed for New Jailbreak

P0sixninja says that he has found the exploits necessary to release a new jailbreak. The hacker contributed to various jailbreak releases in the past including: GreenPois0n, Cdev Reporter, Absinthe, etc.

Well, so far it looks like the next jailbreak might be created entirely by me.

Evad3rs haven't gone anywhere, I've just discovered all the needed exploits on my own over the past few months

As of yet, p0sixninja has not demonstrated a working jailbreak; however, it's promising that exploits are still being found. It's unclear if p0sixninja intends to pursue a jailbreak release for iOS 6.x or hold back the exploits in hope of jailbreaking iOS 7.

18 Million Devices Were Jailbroken Before Apple Blocked Evasi0n With iOS 6.1.3

Saurik reveals that about 18 million devices were jailbroken before Apple released iOS 6.1.3 to block theevasi0n jailbreak, reports Forbes.

In the six weeks since evasi0n was released, however, close to 18 million devices have already been jailbroken, according to data from Jay Freeman, the administrator of the Cydia app store for jailbroken devices. He says he’s counted 18.2 million unique devices running iOS 6 visiting Cydia, including 13.8 million iPhones, 3.4 million iPads, and 1.1 million iPod Touches. Those numbers vastly exceed previous jailbreaks such as Jailbreakme 3, a popular hacking tool for iOS released in the summer of 2011 that was used on around 2 million devices, according to a count at the time by creator Nicholas Allegra.

Notably, planetbeing (David Wang) says that at least one bug remains unpatched. The Evad3rs also a backup supply of 'secret bugs' that are being saved for future jailbreaks. According to the hacker, it's likely the team won't release another jailbreak for some time. "We’ll probably wait until the next major release," says Wang.

If you are still on iOS 6.1.2 or lower, you can find instructions on how to jailbreak your device using theiClarified Jailbreak Wizard.

Warning: Jailbreakers Should Not Update to iOS 6.1.3

Jailbreakers should not update to iOS 6.1.3 as it will likely remove the ability to jailbreak.

Last month, planetbeing (David Wang) revealed that iOS 6.1.3 beta 2 patched at least one of the five bugs used to jailbreak. Specifically, the flaw in the operating system's time zone settings is no longer there.

It's very likely that Apple includes at least this patch if not others in the public release of iOS 6.1.3. We'll let you know as soon as we have confirmation from the Evad3rs; however, at this time you should not update.

It may also be prudent to save your SHSH blobs if you haven't already. Instructions can be found here: Mac,Windows.

What Does the Average Jailbreaker Look Like? [Infographic]

Reddit user spiceman54j has conducted a small survey of jailbreakers on reddit and created a very nice infographic to display the results.

Notably, the average jailbreaker is a teenage boy, living in the U.S. He has advanced technical skills, would spend $16.93 to jailbreak, uses an iPhone 4S or 5, and has 28 tweaks installed.

If you would like add yourself to the survey the form can be found here.
