Lava launching fastest phone with Intel chip

Lava launching fastest phone with Intel chip
Indian manufacturer Lava is vying for some spotlight on the same day when most cellphone buyers globally will look forward to the showcasing of Samsung Galaxy S IV on March 14.

The indigenous smartphone maker is all set to unveil its next Intel-powered Xolo smartphone on March 14 to media in Goa. The company claims that this new phone, being developed under the name Mission X, is the fastest smartphone ever with an Intel chip inside.

However, TOI has learnt that the upcoming Lava Xolo smartphone will not have the newly unveiled chip Intel CloverTrail+ as its heart. It will instead run on a Intel MedfieldZ2460processor clocked at 2GHz that also powers the Motorola Razr i.
The Razr i is so far available in UK only and has done very well in benchmark tests when compared to rivals. This chipset features hyperthreading, which enables the 2GHz single-core processor to work as a dual-core CPU.

The Medfield Z2460 chipset supports Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and up to 2GB RAM, while maximum storage can be up to 64GB. An 8MP rear camera that shoots 1080p videos and a 1.3MP secondary camera can be used with this smartphone chip.

The next phone under the Xolo brand will be Lava's flagship device and is likely to be priced between Rs 20,000 and Rs 22,000. This smartphone will compete against the likes of Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos, HTC Desire X, Motorola Atrix 2, HTC One S and Sony Xperia P.

Some reviewers and media sites have speculated that Lava is introducing the newly unveiled Intel CloverTrail+ smartphone chip with its new phone, but that is not true. Lenovo's K900 will be the first smartphone in the market to come with this processor. It is scheduled to hit India in second quarter of this year.
