#Apple rolls out iPad mini with Retina display

Apple rolls out iPad mini with Retina displayApple has quietly rolled out iPad mini with Retina display in major global markets. Though the company did not make an announcement, it is now available for purchase on its official online store.

In line with a previously leaked internal document, Apple's new mini tablet is now available in the US, UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand. The manufacturer is only selling the Wi-Fi version of the device in China as of now. In Japan, the Wi-Fi variant is listed on Apple's website, while the Wi-Fi + 4G model can be purchased via telecom operator Softbank; however, the Softbank website lists the new iPad mini as 'Coming Soon'.

The new iPad mini with Retina is priced at $399 and has a high resolution Retina display and is powered by the 64-bit A7 processor, same as the top-end iPhone 5S and iPad Air. It has a screen measuring 7.9-inch and runs on iOS 7.

Analysts citing supply chain sources say that Apple is facing acute shortage for the display panel of iPad mini with Retina display. The company is said to be facing low yield of the display from Japanese manufacturer Sharp.

At the unveiling of the new iPad Air and Retina iPad mini in October, Apple said that the smaller tablet would be launched "later in November." This surprised many since the company had always given precise launch dates for its handheld devices in the past.
